Grade K
Kindergarten Enrichment
DAILY:
Read TO your child for pleasure and fun! Have them read their home readers. Discuss characters, setting, problem, solution, beginning, middle, ending, favorite part, etc. Record books you read to them and those that they read to you on the reading log.
Practice reading and spelling the high frequency words on your child’s folder as well as rhyming word families that can be built from those words. Write them in the dirt or in shaving cream, make them with playdough, paint them, go outside and write them with sidewalk chalk, use magnetic letters.
Count everything! Leaves, snacks, Legos, etc. Practice counting by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s to 100. Practice writing numbers 0-30 without a model.
Play games with addition and subtraction facts through five. Make up word problems, use manipulatives to solve and then write the number sentence to match.
Play! Go outside, ride bikes, look for signs of the change in seasons, play board games, go for a walk, TALK a lot about everything!
Have your child help with chores around the house. Give them a list of do-able jobs and let them know how much you appreciate their help. They can: clean their room, take out the garbage, clean the sinks, set the table, sweep, fold towels, put away laundry, etc.
Keep a journal of the things they do. This trimester’s writing genre is a personal narrative which is essentially a story about something they did, told in sequence: What did you do? Where did you go? Who went with you? How was it? How did you feel?
